An unknown treatise by an anonymous Roman, written between 1660 and 1670, Se l’antica musica fosse migliore della moderna: Questione accademica
The treatise, incomplete and in manuscript, held in a private collection, deals with problems that are familiar in treatises of the late Renaissance and Baroque (the relation between the ancients and the moderns, the definition of rhythm, considerations of the ‘sounding number’), together with some original ideas including an identification of the representative in music with concepts of dance pantomime.
