Henry Balme is a PhD candidate in music history at Yale University, where he specializes in audiovisual media and relationships between visual art and music. His dissertation traces the history and theory of visual music in film, from its beginnings in Weimar Germany to its flourishing on the West Coast of the United States in the post-WWII era. Originally from Munich, he holds degrees in music from the University of Oxford (2015) and City, University of London (2014).
