Luigi Cherubini as operatic symphonist: Remarks on his overtures and symphonies

Examines the instrumental output of Luigi Cherubini, including not only his best-known works such as the symphony in D major and the overture in G major, written for the London Philharmonic Society in 1815, but also all of his theatrical overtures, in order to show the developmental pattern and the musical characteristics which place them in the field of symphonic music.
