Music in Roman religious institutions in Stradella’s time
: A reading of the Diario no. 93 (1675) of the Cappella Sistina, written by the soprano and composer Giuseppe Vecchi, and of the contemporary source Memorie dell’anno santo by Ruggero Caetano, allows a reconstruction of the institutional circumstances of the oratorio season in the Rome of Clement X, when Stradella wrote San Giovanni Battista for the Confraternità della Pietà dei Fiorentini, attached to the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini.
