“Imparar suonando”: Academy Festivals between higher musical education and artistic production
The link between training and musical production has been a central element in the development of the Chigiana since the first artistic projects of Count Guido Chigi Saracini at the beginning of the twentieth century. The training of young talents has always been accompanied by the opportunity to perform in public, not only to show what they have learnt in class, but also to give real concerts open to all kinds of listeners, including the students and the community of their teachers.
Traditionally, the Chigiana fully manifests its nature as a school of advanced training during the summer, which is now almost completely covered by one of the most important festivals dedicated to classical music. The “Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy”, which since 2015 has reformulated the previous summer programmes, integrates musical production and training, increasing the presence of students alongside the masters invited to perform original programmes and new works commissioned by the Accademia. In addition to the latter, the public performances given by the students of those courses which are mainly focused on solo repertoire are not just final essays, but are intended to be the first concerts of a budding career.
The distinguished guests at this round table represent leading European higher education and festivals for whom the relationship between education and artistic production is central. The comparison of the different experiences will be an opportunity to better understand how Chigiana’s activity fits into and can further develop the network of Academy Festivals at international level.
“Imparar suonando”: gli Academy Festival fra alta formazione e produzione musicale
Il legame fra formazione e produzione musicale è stato un elemento centrale fin dai primi progetti artistici del conte Guido Chigi Saracini. Il percorso di formazione dei giovani talenti è sempre stato accompagnato da occasioni di esibizione in pubblico che non servivano semplicemente a mostrare quel che si era imparato a lezione, ma consistevano in dei veri e propri concerti aperti a qualsiasi tipo di ascoltatore, compresa la comunità degli allievi e dei loro maestri. Tradizionalmente, la Chigiana manifesta pienamente la sua natura di scuola di alto perfezionamento durante l’estate, che oggi è quasi completamente coperta da uno dei più importanti festival dedicati alla musica colta. Il “Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy”, che dal 2015 ha preso il posto delle precedenti programmazioni estive, si è mosso integrando progressivamente la produzione musicale con la formazione, aumentando la presenza degli allievi accanto ai maestri invitati ad interpretare programmi e opere originali commissionate dall’Accademia. Accanto ad essi, anche i concerti degli allievi di corsi ancora focalizzati su un repertorio solistico non sono dei semplici saggi finali ma si propongono come i primi concerti di una carriera che sta nascendo.
Gli autorevoli invitati a questa tavola rotonda rappresentano istituzioni di alta formazione e festival europei di grande rilievo in cui il rapporto fra formazione e produzione artistica assume oggi un ruolo centrale. Il confronto fra le diverse esperienze sarà occasione per comprendere meglio il modo in cui l’attività chigiana si colloca e può ampliare ulteriormente la rete di rapporti fra gli Academy Festival a livello internazionale.
