The instrumental music of Filippo Manfredi

Manfredi (1731-77) played with the Cappella Palatina in Lucca beginning in 1748, and on 5 September 1758 was appointed as the first violinst of the orchestra. Later he played at theaters in Siena, Pisa, Livorno, Florence, and Venice before rejoining the Lucca orchestra in 1773. His compositions include six sonatas for violin solo and bass, op. 1; 12 ‘lucchesi’ sonatas for violin solo and bass; Duetto notturno for two violins, in E♭ major, known as ‘La buona notte’; and a string trio in B♭ major.
