Vivaldi’s Paraphrased Oboe Concertos of the 1730s

An examination of Vivaldi’s processes of borrowing and adaptation in the four oboe concertos (RV 448, 450, 457, and 463) converted from bassoon concertos (RV 470, 471, 485, and 500, respectively). Evidence of the autograph manuscripts establishes the works’ approximate dating and relationships with opera scores of the mid-1730s, and furnishes fascinating insights into the composer’s methods.
